Terem Moffi faces fresh injury setback ahead of Hoffenheim clash
Nigerian forward Terem Moffi has suffered a fresh fitness setback at Hamburger SV, with a knee problem disrupting his preparations for the club’s Bundesliga return against TSG Hoffenheim.
Moffi has been unable to resume normal training because of the injury, casting doubt over his availability for the October 10 fixture.
The Nigerian striker had hoped to use the international break to improve his fitness after missing part of Hamburger SV’s pre-season preparations. However, his recovery has been slower than expected.
The 27-year-old returned to the training pitch on Tuesday but was restricted to light running and was not yet ready to join his teammates in full training.
Hamburger SV head coach Merlin Polzin is taking a cautious approach as the club continues to monitor the striker’s condition.
“We need to get to know his knee a little better through our work together. The knee reacted a bit more than I initially thought. Now we have to wait and see what happens this week,” Polzin told Kicker.
A final decision on Moffi’s involvement against Hoffenheim has not yet been made. However, the Bundesliga fixture could come too soon for the forward if his recovery does not progress quickly.
Hamburger SV will continue to assess Moffi’s response to training in the coming days before deciding whether he is fit enough to return to the squad for the Hoffenheim encounter.
