Umar Sadiq nears Valencia return as Super Eagles striker awaits medical tests

Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq has provided an encouraging update on his injury recovery, expressing optimism about returning to team training with Valencia in the coming days.

The Nigerian international sustained the injury in September ahead of Valencia’s clash against FC Barcelona, interrupting what had been a promising start to his campaign.

Sadiq opened his goal account for the season against Deportivo La Coruña but has since missed five league matches, including fixtures against Barcelona, Sevilla, Alavés, Real Sociedad and Racing Santander.

Speaking to the media, the forward revealed that he was approaching the final stages of his recovery and would undergo medical tests on Thursday to determine when he could resume training with his teammates.

“Yes, I think I'm almost back. Just a few more steps before I rejoin the team,” Sadiq was quoted as saying by *AS*.

“Tomorrow (Thursday) I have to have some tests done and, if everything goes as planned, I think it will be very soon.”

The 29-year-old also praised Valencia manager Javier Aguirre for creating a positive atmosphere within the squad, expressing his support for the coach as the team works to improve its performances.

“We're doing well. We're trying to bring a lot of positivity, as you saw in the last match,” he added.

“We're taking it one step at a time, and we all support the new coach. Yes, I've spoken to him.”

Sadiq disclosed that Aguirre had wished him a speedy recovery and was looking forward to having him back in the squad, recognising the contribution the striker could make to the team.

“He told me to get well soon and that he's waiting for me, because he knows what I can contribute to the team,” he said.

The Nigerian forward, who is yet to feature under Aguirre, will be eager to regain full fitness and make a positive impression when he returns to action.

## Sadiq targets Valencia revival

Looking beyond his personal recovery, Sadiq said his ambition for the season was to help Valencia reach the level he believes the club deserves.

“The goal is to take Valencia to where it deserves to be. That's not just my goal, but the goal of all the players,” he concluded.

His anticipated return would provide Valencia with another attacking option as they seek greater consistency in their domestic campaign.

For Sadiq, the immediate priority remains completing his recovery and passing the required medical assessments before rejoining full team training. If everything progresses as expected, the Super Eagles striker could soon have the opportunity to contribute to Valencia’s efforts under their new manager.
