West African athletes set for Dynamic Athletics Meet in Lagos
Athletes from Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and host nation Nigeria are gearing up for the 2026 Dynamic Athletics Meet, a World Athletics-listed competition scheduled to take place in mid-August at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Sports Complex in Lagos.
Founder of the Dynamic Athletics Meet, Olabanji Ayegbusi, revealed that the championship has generated strong interest across the West African sub-region, with athletes from the participating countries already confirming their participation through official communications.
According to Ayegbusi, the timing of the competition offers athletes a valuable opportunity to round off the 2026 season on a positive note by chasing personal bests, improving their world rankings and delivering outstanding performances.
The Dynamic Athletics Meet has established itself as one of Nigeria's leading athletics competitions, consistently producing impressive performances, meeting records, world-leading marks and numerous personal bests. Organisers believe this year's edition will continue that tradition by providing a high-quality platform for both elite and emerging athletes.
Details of the official competition date and registration process are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Ayegbusi also appealed to corporate organisations, sports stakeholders and athletics enthusiasts to provide increased technical and financial support to ensure another successful edition of the championship.
He emphasized that the competition remains an important avenue for expanding competitive opportunities for athletes while helping to discover and develop new talents alongside established stars.
"The Dynamic Athletics Meet belongs to everyone in the athletics family—athletes, coaches, former athletes, media practitioners, board members, technical officials and track and field philanthropists. We all have a role to play in making it bigger and better," Ayegbusi said.
He further urged the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) to partner with the organisers, noting that their support would significantly contribute to the continued growth and development of athletics in Nigeria and across West Africa.
