Rio 2016: Nigeria U23 get Olympics camp allowances upfront

Players and officials of the Nigeria U23 have shared the sum of N16.7 million as allowances, the sports minister Solomon Dalung has announced.

In a statement, Dalung said 29 members of the Dream Team VI were paid camp allowances for the first 11 days with each player receiving $1,650 dollars about five hundred and seventy million naira.

The sports minister revealed that each player was entitle for $150 dollars as daily camp allowance after his parley with the team following their 1-0 victory over Sweden on Monday.

Dalung said the decision to play upfront The minister said the upfront payment was to ensure that the players are focused and well motivated. He promised that all entitlements will be be given to all athletes even before the games end.

“All your camp allowances have been budgeted for. There will be no story- telling during this games. You will get all your allowances and entitlements as we don’t want any distractions. We want you to remain focused,” Dalung said.

“You have established that you’re great men and determined to conquer, despite all odds. There can’t be any other sacrifice more than this,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Minister has announced that he will be at Arena Corinthians, Sao Paolo to cheer the Olympic Eagles in their last group B match against Columbia on Wednesday.
