South African star helps club clinch Champions League berth despite draw

Refiloe Jane’s AC Milan were forced to a 2-2 draw by Hellas Verona, but they ultimately ended in excitement on the last day of the 2020-21 Premier League season.

A 0-0 draw with third-place Sassuolo, in which the South African featured prominently as her side secure a Champions League berth.

Despite missing the final day tie with Hellas Verona, AC Milan got off to a disappointing start when Rosella Sardu set up Ana Jelencic to open the scoring for the visitors after just 13 minutes.

Milan, however, bounced back into the contest when Nastaha Dowie levelled the score seven minutes from the half time.

After the restart, Irene Santi teed up Vanessa Susanna to recover the visitors’ lead in the 67th minute but Sara S. Tamborin’s effort 17 minutes from the time eventually forced a stalemate.

The Banyana Banyana midfielder finished the league campaign with one goal in 17 outings as her side ended as runners-up – a spot better than their third-place outing last season.
