Speaker recommends JTF for Kogi central over increasing crime rate

Speaker of Kogi House of Assembly, Alhaji Momoh-Jimoh Lawal has called for composition of a high-power security Joint Task Force (JTF) to curtail killing and other criminal activities in Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The speaker who made the call at plenary on Tuesday said the present wave of crime and criminality in the area had become “a thing of serious concern and worry.”

He said that some key religious leaders and traditional rulers were of recent killed by unknown gunmen and their killers had till now, remained unknown.

“Just yesterday, April 27, at about 7 pm, we received the shocking news of a bomb blast at Tao FM Radio Station in Okene.

“This new dimension of crimes and criminality in the area is not only strange but frightening. It calls for collaboration and synergy among security agencies in order to unravel the mystery and bring perpetrators to justice”, he said.

Lawal commiserated with families of the victims and prayed God to grant the deceased, forgiveness and eternal rest.

Also at plenary on Tuesday, the speaker commended Governor Idris Wada for “providing a conducive atmosphere for a peaceful, transparent and credible General Election in the state.”

The speaker also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for the “Profound competence, discipline and high level of professionalism” displayed in guaranteeing Free, fair, peaceful and credible election.

Lawal congratulated winners in the elections urging them to be magnanimous in victory and encouraged those did not win to rise beyond the defeat knowing they could still try and at other times.
