The National Chairman United Patriots (UP)Chukwudi Ezeobika in a Statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday said INEC under Yakubu Mahmoud has been undermining democracy and rule of Law In Nigeria through fragrant disregard and disobedience to Court Judgements.

He described as retrogressive and immoral, the unhealthy conduct of the Nigerian Courts in unwittingly interfering with the Will of the Nigerian people through Court pronouncements on elections.

“United Patriots (UP) as a Political Party in Nigeria do not feel inclined to believe that the continued attacks and assault on INEC facilities and offices across the States of the federation may not be unconnected with the failure of the electoral body and the Courts to uphold the free Will of the Nigerian people as expressed at the ballots during elections.

“We however do not feel obliged to accept the notion that the Courts have the moral authority to uphold or upturn an election validly conducted in Nigeria especially when the conduct of such elections are generally accepted by the people.

“These attacks on INEC facilities and offices are a clear indication and or confirmation of a complete failure of Prof. Yakubu Mahmoud led INEC to give Nigerians a free, fair and credible elections”

He further affirmd total loss of faith and belief in the electoral body as presently constituted.

“Disregard and disobedience to subsisting Court judgements by a democratic institution such as INEC portends a grave danger to our democracy.

“Such fragrant disregard and disobedience to subsisting Court judgements by Prof. Yakubu Mahmoud – led INEC, especially the judgement unanimously delivered by the Court of Appeal on the 10th of August, 2020, ordering INEC to relist our great Party (United Patriots) together with 21 others, has the potential to undermine the Rule of Law and the Nation’s democracy, as such judgement has neither been set aside nor stayed by any Order of Court whatsoever.

“This affront on the integrity and sanctity of the Judiciary and the Law by Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu – led INEC remains reprehensible, reckless and irresponsible and has the tendency to further fuel the existing crisis currently rocking the Commission. “
