Wada vows to tackle financial troubles in Kogi LGs

The Kogi State Government says it is working on a long lasting solution towards ensuring that Local Government Councils in the State overcome their present financial challenges and to enable them meet their primary obligation to their people.

Kogi State Governor Capt Idris Wada stated this while commissioning some Tricycles purchased and subsidized at twenty five percent discount by Mopamuro LGA for selected youths in the area. It is part of the first phase of the council’s youths empowerment program.

The State Governor who was represented by his Deputy,Yomi Awoniyi commended the council’s initiative and said the idea to make the youths of the area self employed is in consonants with his administration’s Youth Advancement and Development Program. The idea he noted is aimed at creating a deliberate policy geared towards re – orientation and positive engagement of its youths, women and other vulnerable groups.

Capt Wada commended the integrity of Funsho Daniyan,the Mopamuro Council Chairman and in his prudent management of scarce resources.

The Governor lamented the dwindling accruing monthly financial resources that has affected all tiers of government. He however added that the situation calls for sacrifice and prudent use of scarce resources as displayed by the leadership in Mopamuro LGA.

The Governor charged the youths of Mopamuro LGA who are the beneficiary of the scheme to reciprocate government’s huge investment by striving to pay their monthly commitment so as to make the scheme revolving.

The Governor appealed to youths of the area to always engage in worth while ventures that is geared towards economic gains and subsequent self reliance.

Earlier in his remarks,Funsho Daniyan, the Council Chairman of Mopamuro LGA,said the purchase of the Tricycles that was discounted for the youths is aimed at empowering the youths to be self reliant.

The Council, the Chairman stated, undertook to under write off 25% of the cost of purchase of the Tricycles, said the balance of N160,000 will be spread over an eight month period to ease payment for the beneficiaries.

The Council Chairman disclosed that the council is currently passing through a challenging phase of not having financial resources to meet the promises it made to the people,but however said the empowerment scheme is initiated to assist young people to be gainfully engaged. The Chairman added that the programme will be a revolving scheme so as to enable several others who are interested to benefit.

The occasion witnessed the presentation of good will messages from the Head of Local Government Administration,Peoples Democratic Party Chairman,the Traditional Institution,and other Stakeholders who are all from the area.

Speaking on behalf of the Beneficiary,Sunday Amao thanked the Council Chairman for his efforts at making them self reliant and commended the idea geared towards improving the standard of living of youths of the area.
