We want the Sports federations to function well – SWAN President hails Dalung

President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commended the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung over his recent effort aimed at repositioning various sports federations.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports had reshuffled sports federation secretaries in a manner that reflected all the six geo-political zones and expertise in order to achieve efficiency, professionalism and quality service delivery.

Sirawoo who stated this in an interview in Abuja, stressed that the SWAN would support every effort geared towards repositioning the various sporting federations, especially as the country seeks more avenues to positively engage youths and eke out means of livelihood.

According to him, “we have long canvassed that sporting federations should be made more productive and run professionally in such a manner that only those who have the requisite experience and passion are supported to administer such federations.”

He tasked the Sports Minister to extend same spirit to persons seeking the leadership of various sporting federations, insisting that only those experienced professionally with passion for sports are encouraged to vie for office.

“Our interest is that we want the various sporting federations to function well. We should not focus only on football. Sport is a money-spinner all over the world and the more youths we are able to engage in various sports, the better for this country.

“In this era of unemployment, one of the surest ways of engaging youths is through sports. If we have the right people running the various sporting federations, it means we are able to provide the right platform to engage our youths and ultimately, give them opportunities to means of livelihood,” he said.
