No fewer than 50 of the country’s brands from banking to oil and gas, among others, have been nominated for the World Brand Congress.
The WBC 2013 tagged, ‘Sustainable Brands,’ is in partnership with chief marketing officers in the USA and Asia with a combined membership strength of over 6,500 members, who control more than $350bn in aggregated annual marketing expenditures with marketing and sales operations worldwide.
The Nigerian brands have been nominated for awards at this year’s event, which comes up from October 21 to 23, 2013 in India.
In a statement by the Nigerian representative of WBC, Mrs. Kofo Olaosebikan, the WBC commissioned an independent and comprehensive survey of brands in the country in order to identify the most socially responsible brands, which have made significant contributions to the socio-economic development of their respective communities.
Olaosebikan said that in alignment with the theme of this year’s congress, the WBC also gave premium consideration to sustainability branding.
She said, “Among the brands which scaled the rigorous nomination criteria from Nigeria under different categories are key players in the banking, oil and gas, manufacturing and other sectors of the national economy.
“The World Brand Congress is a not-for-profit making activity organised to bring together the best brains behind many of the world’s most successful brands.
“We shall be silent on these nominees so we don’t appear to be campaigning for them as the competition is very stiff.”
