'This Flamingos will shock the world' - Awawu Bashiru

There is a quiet confidence brewing in the camp of Nigeria's U-17 Women's National Team, the Flamingos, and 16-year-old attacking midfielder Bashir Awawu believes the world is about to witness something special.

The talented youngster was spotted in Sagamu on her way to rejoin the Flamingos' training camp after briefly linking up with Confluence Queens FC for their President Federation Cup quarter-final clash against Sunshine Queens of Akure.

Despite her immense talent, Awawu describes herself as a naturally shy person.

"I'm not someone who talks too much. I prefer to express myself through hard work on the pitch," she said.

Speaking about the atmosphere in camp, the gifted midfielder praised the team's technical crew, especially the head coach, Akeem Busari.

"Our coach is like a father to every one of us. He genuinely cares about the players, but he is also very disciplined and takes no nonsense. That has helped to bring out the best in us as a team," she said.

Awawu also showered praise on her teammates, describing them as "wonderful and fantastic players" with the quality, unity and determination to conquer the world.

"We have an amazing team, and I believe we will shock the world by winning the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup," Awawu declared confidently.

With fearless young stars like Bashiru Awawu leading the charge, Nigerian football fans will be hoping the Flamingos can once again soar on the global stage—and perhaps make history.
