NPFL announces Jos preseason tournament
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a special preseason tournament in Jos, Plateau State, for Nigeria’s four representatives in the upcoming CAF inter-club competitions.
The tournament, scheduled for August 18 to 23, 2026, will feature NPFL champions Rangers, Rivers United, Shooting Stars and Federation Cup winners Elkanemi Warriors, alongside wildcard entrants Plateau United and Mighty Jets.
Rangers and Rivers United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League, while Shooting Stars and Elkanemi Warriors will campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, with the continental competitions set to begin in September.
The NPFL board says the tournament is aimed at giving the participating clubs valuable preparation ahead of their continental campaigns, as Nigerian teams look to make a strong impression on the African stage.
The decision to stage the competition in Jos is part of the league’s efforts to provide the clubs with competitive matches as they fine-tune their squads and strategies ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Rangers, Rivers United and Shooting Stars are currently featuring in the ValueJet preseason tournament in Ikenne as part of their preparations.
Elkanemi Warriors, however, are not participating in the Ikenne tournament and will instead join the other CAF representatives in Jos for the NPFL-organised competition.
