The battle for supremacy in the chess event at the ongoing National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, is heating up at Ikenne as both the male and female categories completed Round 3 on Tuesday.

In the male division, Team Oyo tops the leaderboard after three rounds of intense competition, closely followed by Edo, Delta, Rivers, and hosts Ogun State in that order.

Meanwhile, in the female category, Rivers State emerged as the frontrunner after Round 3, with Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, and Kwara completing the top five. Hosts Ogun currently sit sixth.

Rounds 4 and 5 are scheduled to take place today, Wednesday, May 21, with expectations of fierce boardroom battles as states jostle for medals and national glory.
