CAF to pay $100,000 to clubs eliminated before continental group stage

All clubs that fail to qualify for the group stage of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup are set to receive $100,000 each under a new financial support initiative by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The initiative means Nigeria’s four representatives who exited the continental competitions before the group stage are eligible for the financial support.

Rangers International and Rivers United, who competed in the CAF Champions League, alongside Shooting Stars Sports Club and El-Kanemi Warriors, who featured in the CAF Confederation Cup, are among the Nigerian clubs expected to benefit.

The financial support marks a departure from previous practice, with CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe credited with introducing the initiative to support clubs that fall short of reaching the group stage.

The funding is expected to help the affected clubs offset some of their competition-related expenses and sustain the development of their football operations.

The initiative could provide some financial relief for clubs whose continental campaigns end before the group stage, helping them manage costs and continue their activities.
