Castmog Ladies, Ahudiyannem Queens join Sunshine in NWFL Premiership
The promotion race in the 2025 NWFL Championship hit a decisive stage on Wednesday, with Castmog Ladies and hosts Ahudiyannem Queens sealing their tickets to the top flight alongside Sunshine Queens. Only one promotion slot now remains up for grabs.
In Umuahia, Castmog Ladies secured their place despite a 1–0 defeat to Gallant Queens. An unfortunate 49th-minute own goal by goalkeeper Omotolani Oladunjoye gifted Gallant their first strike of the tournament, but the result mattered little. A goalless draw between First Mahi Babes and Royal Queens earlier in the day had already guaranteed Castmog top spot in Group A1 with six points.
Over in Abiriba, Ahudiyannem Queens capped their fairytale campaign with a 1–1 draw against Wazbak International, enough to clinch promotion on home soil. Kenechukwu Eze fired the hosts ahead in the 38th minute before Sofiat Hassan’s late equaliser earned Wazbak a share of the spoils. Ann Chiejine’s side finished atop Group B1 with seven points. On the same ground, Pelican Stars bowed out on a high, edging Chosen Generation Angels 1–0 courtesy of Glory Chukwu’s early strike.
Elsewhere, Osun Babes reignited their promotion hopes in emphatic style, thumping Ghetto Tigers 4–1. Adeola Omowodun struck early, Zainab Salaudeen netted twice, and Victory Odanlumen added a fourth as Osun stormed back into contention. Ebube Jude scored the Tigers’ consolation. Delta Babes also registered their first win, edging Moje Queens 2–1 through goals from Ijeoma Damian and Mary Chisom, while Tawa Mustapha pulled one back for Moje.
Sunshine Queens, already promoted, continued their flawless run with a 1–0 win over Kwara Ladies, making it nine points from nine without conceding a goal. Fortress Ladies also ended on a bright note, beating Unification FC 2–0 with first-half efforts from Okundia Aisosa and Henry Ivie.
With Groups A1, A2, and B1 wrapped up, all eyes now turn to Group B2, where the final promotion ticket will be decided this weekend. Imo Striker Queens lead the race with six points from two matches, but Osun Babes, Ghetto Tigers, and Delta Babes remain firmly in the hunt.
Promoted so far: Sunshine Queens, Castmog Ladies, Ahudiyannem Queens.
