Aruna Quadri drops in ITTF ranking as Fatima Bello climbs
Nigeria’s top table tennis star, Quadri Aruna, has dropped one spot to 24th in the latest ITTF World Ranking despite not losing any points. The 36-year-old, who didn’t compete during the review week, was overtaken due to changes from other players' performances.
Aruna’s current points total (1,140) remains unchanged, largely built on his runner-up finish at the 2025 African Cup and a semi-final run in Doha earlier this year. However, with no recent appearances and key results nearing expiration, his ranking is now under threat.
On a brighter note, Fatima Bello moved up four spots to 92nd in the women’s rankings with 230 points. Despite being inactive since May, the 2025 African Cup semi-finalist benefitted from positive point adjustments.
Elsewhere, Taiwo Mati made the biggest leap among Nigerians, climbing five places to 531st. Meanwhile, Olajide Omotayo(162), Matthew Kuti(195), and Muizz Adegoke(231) all saw slight drops, and Azeez Solanke fell eight places to 858th.
In the women’s rankings, China continues to dominate with Sun Yingsha leading the world, while Nigeria’s Aminat Fashola (182), Ajoke Ojomu climbed two places to 194, and Offiong Edem slipped seven places to 261.
The ITTF rankings, updated weekly, determine global seedings and qualifications, with players’ top eight performances over the past 12 months counting toward their total.
