Champions League concern for PSG as Rasheedat Ajibade suffer injury on Nigeria duty

Paris Saint-Germain could face an injury concern ahead of their UEFA Women’s Champions League clash with Manchester City after Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade was stretchered off during Super Falcons’ 5-0 victory over Comoros in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.

Ajibade suffered the injury during Tuesday’s second-leg encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, forcing Nigeria to make an early substitution in the first half.

The influential midfielder appeared to be in considerable discomfort and was reportedly in tears as medical personnel attended to her before she was carried off on a stretcher.

Folashade Ijamilusi came on to replace the injured captain in the 28th minute, with Nigeria continuing the contest without one of their most experienced players.

The incident has raised concerns over Ajibade’s availability for PSG, who are preparing for a demanding run of fixtures that includes their Champions League meeting with Manchester City on Wednesday, October 14.

Ajibade has become an important figure for the French club since joining from Atlético Madrid, bringing her international experience, attacking quality and versatility to PSG’s forward line.

The Super Falcons captain had also been contributing to PSG’s strong start to the 2026/27 campaign, scoring in domestic competition and featuring in the club’s European fixtures.

Her condition will now be closely monitored by both Nigeria’s medical team and PSG, although no confirmed diagnosis or recovery timeline was immediately available at the time of reporting.

Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros secured progress in the Olympic qualifying campaign, but Ajibade’s injury was an unwelcome development despite the emphatic result.

For PSG, the immediate priority will be to establish the extent of the injury and determine whether their Nigerian forward will be available for the Manchester City encounter.

Until medical assessments are completed, her participation in the Champions League fixture remains uncertain.
