2024 National Sports Festival: Ogun State handball team beat Plateau as Sokoto stun Edo
The Ogun female handball team has advanced to the next stage of the competition after defeating Plateau State with a score of 35-25 during the ongoing National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024.
Previously, Ogun had triumphed over Kogi in their opening match, winning 32-20 at the Alake Sports Center in Ijeja, Abeokuta, on Tuesday.
In a surprising turn of events, Sokoto State managed to edge out Edo State with a close score of 22-20 in a fiercely contested match on Day 3 of the women's category at the same venue.
Sokoto established an early lead, reaching halftime at 12-8, and successfully withstood a late challenge from Edo to secure their first significant victory in the tournament.
In other matches, Lagos demonstrated their dominance by defeating Bauchi decisively with a score of 33-13, following a commanding first half where they led 19-5, showcasing their tactical prowess and quick transitions.
Additionally, spectators were treated to an exhilarating match between Oyo and Delta, where Oyo narrowly emerged victorious with a score of 35-34, overcoming a halftime deficit of 13-14 through sheer determination in the final moments of the game.
