Nigeria remain Africa’s lone representative among the world’s top 10
Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have slipped two places to 10th in the latest FIBA Women’s World Cup Power Rankings released ahead of the tournament.
The Nigerian side, who were previously rated eighth, dropped two spots in the latest assessment of teams expected to contend for the global title.
The United States retain the number one position, while France and Spain occupy second and third places respectively.
Belgium are fourth, with Australia fifth, China sixth and Germany seventh.
Japan are ranked eighth, while Italy have climbed to ninth, pushing D’Tigress down to 10th despite Nigeria maintaining their position among the world’s elite women’s basketball nations.
D’Tigress remain the only African team in the top 10, underlining their status as the continent’s leading women’s basketball side and their growing competitiveness on the international stage.
The latest rankings provide an indication of how FIBA views the leading contenders as preparations intensify for the Women’s World Cup, with Nigeria aiming to make another strong impression against the world’s best.
