Nigeria defender Oluwatosin Demehin made her first start for SL Benfica in the UEFA Women’s Champions League as the Portuguese champions secured a 2-1 victory over Juventus in their opening league-phase fixture.

 Demehin was named in Benfica’s starting XI for the European clash at the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday, September 22, marking an important milestone in her career with the Portuguese club.

 The Nigerian defender featured alongside Benfica’s defensive unit as the visitors looked to begin their Champions League campaign on a positive note.

 Benfica took the lead in the 40th minute after converting a penalty to head into the half-time break with a 1-0 advantage.

 The Portuguese champions doubled their lead in the 61st minute, putting themselves firmly in control of the contest.

 Juventus pulled a goal back in the 86th minute, setting up a tense finish. However, Demehin and her teammates held firm to secure all three points away from home.

 Meanwhile, fellow Super Falcons forward Flourish Sebastine was named among Benfica’s substitutes but did not feature in the encounter.

 The victory gives Benfica a winning start to their 2026/27 UEFA Women’s Champions League league-phase campaign, while Demehin’s starting role represents another significant step in her European journey with the Portuguese champions.
