Eric Chelle fires warning ahead of 2026 Unity Cup final against Jamaica

Nigeria’s Head Coach Eric Chelle has declared that the Super Eagles are fully prepared to defend their Unity Cup title ahead of Saturday’s final clash against Jamaica in London.

The Super Eagles booked their place in the final after defeating Zimbabwe 2-0, thanks to a brilliant brace from debutant Femi Azeez, while the Reggae Boyz also secured a 2-0 victory over India.

The highly anticipated showdown marks the third meeting between both nations in the Afro-Caribbean tournament that celebrates football, music, and culture in the British capital.

Nigeria edged Jamaica in last year’s final after a dramatic encounter at the Brentford Stadium ended 2-2 in regulation time as Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze were on target the Super Eagles before Nigeria triumphed in the penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali playing a key role after Dwayne Atkinson missed his kick.

Despite missing key stars from last year’s triumph, Chelle expressed confidence in his youthful squad and insisted his team has embraced a winning mentality.

“Penalties are part of the game, and it can decide who wins a match. Every time I go into a game, I have the mentality to win,” Chelle said.

“This is the culture I have put in these boys the winning culture. These are very young players with a bright future and they are hungry for success. We have prepared to win and defend the Unity Cup."
