FG declares August 25 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government while extending warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and in the diaspora.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the virtues of compassion, humility and service to humanity.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” Tunji-Ojo said.

He encouraged Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, to embrace these values, stressing that they remain essential to strengthening the country at this time.

The minister also called on citizens to use the celebration to offer collective prayers for peace, unity and national cohesion.

He emphasised that maintaining peace and strengthening national unity is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of all Nigerians.
