FIFA approves appointment of normalisation committee to oversee NFF ahead of fresh elections
The Bureau of the FIFA Council on Thursday approved the appointment of a Normalisation Committee to oversee the affairs of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) pending fresh elections into the federation’s Executive Committee.
In a letter signed by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and addressed to Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON, FIFA confirmed that the committee would be established jointly with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to the letter, “the normalisation committee shall consist of a suitable number of members, who will be appointed jointly by FIFA and CAF as soon as possible.”
The committee will be responsible for managing the federation’s affairs during the transition period and ensuring the process leading to fresh elections into the NFF Executive Committee.
FIFA further stated that the committee’s tenure would end once it had completed its assigned responsibilities, but not later than May 31, 2027.
The letter also made it clear that none of the committee members would be eligible to contest any of the positions to be filled during the forthcoming NFF elections.
Meanwhile, the NFF Secretariat will continue to handle the day-to-day administration of the federation and the management of football activities in Nigeria until the Normalisation Committee is appointed.
The development sets the stage for an interim administrative arrangement at the NFF ahead of the election of a new Executive Committee.
