Tinubu backs Nigeria's bid to host first CAF Award since 2017

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has thrown his weight behind Nigeria’s bid to host this year’s prestigious CAF Awards.

The President’s support was announced during a meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsepe at the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

Also present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, former NFF President and Special Adviser to the CAF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, as well as CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.

The CAF Awards remains one of the continent’s biggest football celebrations, recognising outstanding players, coaches, clubs, national teams and football personalities across Africa.

The annual ceremony attracts football stars, administrators, dignitaries, sponsors and international media in a glamorous atmosphere celebrating excellence in African football.

Nigeria previously hosted the CAF Awards in January 2017 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, where some of the continent’s biggest football stars gathered for the ceremony.

President Tinubu’s backing is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s chances of securing the hosting rights once again as the country seeks to reinforce its status as a major player in African football administration and event hosting.

The development also aligns with efforts by the Nigeria Football Federation to position Nigeria as a hub for international football events and deepen relationships with continental football authorities.

If successful, Nigeria would once again welcome Africa’s top football personalities for what promises to be another memorable celebration of the game on the continent.
