Five-star Super Falcons thrash Comoros to advance to third round of 2028 Olympic Qualifiers

Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked their place in the third round of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after thrashing Comoros 5-0 in the second leg at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.

The emphatic victory gave the 10-time African champions a commanding 7-0 aggregate win following their 2-0 triumph in the first leg.

Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu both scored twice, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty to complete Nigeria’s five-goal performance.

Payne opened the scoring in the 41st minute, finishing off a well-worked move after an assist from Kanu to give Nigeria the lead before half-time.

The Super Falcons continued their dominance after the restart, with Kanu doubling their advantage in the 57th minute through a well-placed header from Folashade Ijamilusi’s cross.

Payne completed her brace seven minutes later, finding the net in the 64th minute after being set up by Blessing Okpe to make it 3-0.

Nigeria struck again in the 67th minute when Kanu scored her second goal of the match, heading home another excellent delivery from Ijamilusi to extend the lead to four goals.

The hosts were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute after Okpe was fouled inside the box. Ucheibe stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to seal the 5-0 victory.

The result confirms Nigeria’s progression to the third round of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifying series, where they will face Morocco in their quest to reach the women’s football tournament.
