Flamingos captain Harmony Chidi has expressed her delight after leading Nigeria to victory at the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup, describing the triumph as one of the happiest moments of her career.

 Nigeria produced a flawless campaign, winning all five of their matches against Niger, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire and Togo to lift the trophy.

 The Flamingos were impressive at both ends of the pitch, scoring 17 goals and keeping four clean sheets during their five matches.

 Chidi played a key role in Nigeria’s success, finishing as the team’s joint-top scorer with four goals.

 The captain scored against Ghana and Burkina Faso before producing another standout performance in Sunday’s final, scoring twice as Nigeria defeated Togo 4-0.

 Reflecting on the tournament after the final, Chidi thanked God for Nigeria’s success and singled out victories over regional rivals Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire as particular highlights.

 “I thank God for everything. I feel so happy; I am the happiest person on earth right now. It's not easy beating so many teams in this tournament,” Chidi said.

 She added: “When I talk about beating teams, coming out of the five teams that we played, we had to conquer all of them. Not only that, my number one achievement is beating Ghana, and not only beating Ghana, but beating Ivory Coast too, these two teams.”

 With the WAFU B title secured, Chidi is now looking ahead to the next major challenge and hopes the Flamingos can carry their winning mentality into the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

 “I am happy, and I pray we take this spirit from the WAFU B to the World Cup, and let Nigerians support us more so that we can do better at the World Cup.”

 Nigeria have been drawn in Group B of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland, setting the stage for another major test for the young champions.
