Galatasaray Close in on Burnley Midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu Amid Super Eagles Interest

Turkish champions Galatasaray are edging closer to the signing of Burnley midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu as negotiations between both clubs continue to gather pace.

The Istanbul giants are understood to have reached an agreement on personal terms with the 22-year-old and are now working to finalise the structure of a deal with Burnley.

While Galatasaray are seeking to bring the midfielder to Turkey on an initial season-long loan, Burnley are insisting that any temporary move should include a mandatory purchase clause.

According to sources, the obligation to buy would become active once Ugochukwu reaches an agreed number of appearances during his loan spell.

The France U23 international has also attracted attention from Nigeria, with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle reportedly monitoring the midfielder as part of efforts to strengthen the national team's options.

Despite his Nigerian heritage, the Rennes-born midfielder is believed to favour continuing his international career with France, having represented Les Bleus across several youth levels.

Ugochukwu remains eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level should he decide to switch his international allegiance in the future.

A product of Rennes' renowned academy, the powerful midfielder has built a reputation for his athleticism, composure in possession and ability to dominate aerial duels.

Although naturally deployed as a defensive midfielder, he is equally comfortable operating in central midfield or a more advanced role, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking tactical flexibility.

Ugochukwu joined Burnley from Chelsea ahead of the 2025/26 campaign and featured prominently during his first season at Turf Moor.

The midfielder made 38 appearances across all competitions despite Burnley's relegation from the Premier League, underlining his importance to the squad throughout the campaign.

With a contract running until June 2030, Burnley remain in a strong negotiating position, but Galatasaray are optimistic that an agreement can be reached in the coming days.

If the move is completed, Ugochukwu would become another high-profile addition to the Turkish champions as they strengthen their squad for the defence of their Super Lig title and another UEFA Champions League campaign.
