MC Alger end Rangers Champions League campaign after comeback win
Enugu Rangers have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after suffering a 3-0 defeat to MC Alger in the second leg of their encounter in Algeria.
The Nigerian champions crashed out 3-2 on aggregate after surrendering their two-goal advantage from the first leg, allowing the Algerian side to complete a remarkable comeback in front of their home supporters.
Rangers entered the return leg with a comfortable advantage but struggled to withstand the pressure as MC Alger dominated proceedings and pushed relentlessly for goals.
Despite the Rangers goalkeeper saving a penalty to keep his side in contention, MC Alger eventually found a way through to score three times and overturn the deficit.
The defeat marks a disappointing end to Rangers’ continental campaign, with the NPFL champions unable to protect their first-leg lead and secure progression to the next round.
MC Alger, meanwhile, advance after a determined performance that turned the tie in their favour.
Rangers will now be left to reflect on a painful exit after allowing a two-goal advantage to slip away in Algeria.
