NPFL MD8 Wrap: Plateau United thrash Kano Pillars as Rangers hold Barau

Plateau United delivered one of the standout performances of Sunday’s EUROMATCH-NPFL fixtures, recording a commanding 4-0 victory over Kano Pillars at the New Jos Stadium.

Gbenga Ogunbote’s men made a flying start, taking the lead in the third minute through Paul Samson, who finished off a move created by Ekundayo Ojo and Ibrahim Yahaya.

Plateau United doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Ojo capitalised on a deflected corner kick from Victor Dawa to find the net.

The hosts sealed their emphatic victory in the closing stages, with Samuel Ayanrinde scoring in the 82nd minute before Nenrot Silas added the fourth in stoppage time at 90+4.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Rangers International battled back to secure a 2-2 draw against Barau FC in an entertaining encounter.

Ifeanyi Okechukwu gave Rangers the lead in the 38th minute, but Barau turned the game around in the second half through penalties converted by Joseph Atule in the 56th minute and Aliyu Sugau in the 68th minute.

Rangers, however, salvaged a point deep into stoppage time when Chidiebere Nwobodo found the net to make it 2-2, allowing the champions to retain their position at the top of the standings after another round of matches.

Second-placed Rivers United remained in pursuit of the leaders after playing out a goalless draw away to Abia Warriors.

Kun Khalifat FC and Nasarawa United also recorded 2-0 victories over Shooting Stars and Doma United respectively.

Chukwuma Agor opened the scoring for Kun Khalifat in the 42nd minute before Uchechukwu Onuoha doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute.

For Nasarawa United, Sunday Dapman and Jofrank Istifanus scored a goal each to secure all three points against Doma United.

Warri Wolves claimed a 3-1 victory over Inter Lagos, with Emmanuel Aribogba scoring twice.

Aribogba put Wolves ahead in the 32nd minute, but John Danga equalised for Inter Lagos five minutes before half-time.

The forward restored Warri Wolves’ lead in the 49th minute before Sabastine Uche added a third goal late in the game to complete the victory.

In Lagos, Sporting Lagos staged a comeback to defeat Bendel Insurance 2-1 after conceding the fastest goal of the season so far.

Kayode Oke gave the visitors an early lead just 18 seconds into the match, but Sporting Lagos responded with two quick goals from Victor Samuel in the 14th minute and Gafar Olaniyan in the 22nd minute.

The result completed an eventful Sunday of EUROMATCH-NPFL action, with Plateau United’s emphatic win and Rangers’ late equaliser among the major talking points.
