NSC dissolves boards of National Para Sports Federations

The National Sports Commission has announced the immediate dissolution of the boards of the National Para Sports Federations as part of efforts to ensure a transparent, credible, and orderly electoral process that will lead to the emergence of new leadership across the federations.

The affected bodies include the:

Amputee Football Federation

Para Athletics Federation

Para Powerlifting Federation

Para Swimming Federation

Para Soccer Federation

Para Volleyball Federation

According to the Commission, the dissolved boards—originally inaugurated on July 20, 2022—made notable contributions to the development of para sports in Nigeria. These contributions included providing leadership, administrative oversight, and direction for the growth of various para sporting disciplines.

The Commission expressed appreciation to the outgoing Presidents, Vice Presidents, board members, and stakeholders for their service, dedication, and commitment throughout their tenure.

The dissolution is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening governance structures within para sports, improving accountability, and ensuring that upcoming elections are conducted in line with established principles of fairness, transparency, and credibility.

In line with this directive, all outgoing board members have been instructed to immediately hand over federation properties, records, documents, and administrative responsibilities to the respective Secretaries-General. These officials will manage the day-to-day operations of the federations in an interim capacity until new boards are elected and inaugurated.

The Commission further assured athletes, coaches, technical officials, sponsors, partners, and stakeholders that measures have been put in place to ensure continuity in all federation activities during the transition period.

Details regarding the modalities, timelines, and procedures for the forthcoming elections will be announced through official channels of the National Sports Commission in due course.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Commission stated that it remains focused on promoting good governance, institutional stability, and sustainable development across sports administration in Nigeria, while creating an enabling environment for athletes and administrators to thrive.
