Nigerian prospect Michael Orefuwa eyes Bahrani league title
Nigerian youngster Michael Orefuwa is determined to help Bahraini powerhouse Al Ahli end a long wait for league success after playing a key role in the club's recent youth triumph.
The former Nigeria U-17 invitee enjoyed a remarkable 2025/26 season, breaking into Al Ahli's senior squad while captaining the club's U-21 side to the NBB U-21 League title their first youth championship since 2004.
Having established himself as one of the club's brightest emerging talents, Orefuwa is now focused on helping Al Ahli challenge for the Bahraini top-flight crown in the 2026/27 season.
The club, which last won the league title in 2010 and lifted the King's Cup in 2024, returned to pre-season preparations on July 20 with renewed ambitions.
Reflecting on his progress, the Nigerian defender described last season as a turning point in his career.
“I'm excited about the new season. Last season was a breakthrough for me. Breaking into the first team, playing important matches and leading the U-21 team to the league title was an incredible experience.
I'm learning every day from experienced international players, and I believe we can achieve great things this season,” Orefuwa said.
The highly rated youngster also spoke about his international aspirations, insisting that his immediate focus remains on continuous development and delivering strong performances for his club.
“I'm concentrating on working hard and getting better every day. If the opportunity comes, whether with the U-23 team or beyond, I'll be ready. For now, my focus is on giving my best for my club,” he added.
With his stock continuing to rise in Bahraini football, Orefuwa will be hoping to translate his youth success into senior silverware and further strengthen his case for future national team consideration.
