Ofili finishes third in dramatic 200m photo-finish at Lausanne Diamond League

Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili finished third in the women’s 200m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Friday after clocking 22.32 seconds in a dramatic photo-finish.

Ofili recorded the same time as Britain’s Amy Hunt, but the British sprinter was awarded second place after officials separated the pair by just three-thousandths of a second.

American Kayla White claimed victory in 22.18 seconds to secure her first-ever Diamond League win.

The race, held at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise as part of the Athletissima meeting, was also marked by an unfortunate injury to Jamaica’s five-time Olympic medallist Shericka Jackson.

Jackson pulled up during the race with a suspected hamstring injury and was unable to finish.

Despite narrowly missing out on second place, Ofili’s podium finish further underlines her impressive form on the Diamond League circuit this season.

The 23-year-old Nigerian national record holder continues to establish herself among Africa’s leading sprint talents as the athletics season builds towards major international championships.
