Rivers United escape tragedy as bus crashes on way to Federation Cup clash

 

 

Rivers United Football Club has confirmed that its team bus was involved in a road traffic accident on Thursday while traveling to Awka, Anambra State, for the President Federation Cup Round of 16 encounter against Nasarawa United.

 

According to the club, the incident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt shortly after the contingent departed from the team's camp.

 

Despite the frightening incident, the club reported that there were no fatalities or life-threatening injuries. However, some players and officials sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

 

A statement from the club revealed that all affected individuals are in stable condition, with the medical team closely monitoring their recovery while management evaluates the situation and considers the next steps.

 

"The safety, health, and well-being of our players and officials remain our utmost priority," the club stated, assuring supporters that every necessary measure is being taken to care for those involved.

 

Rivers United also expressed gratitude to fans, partners, and members of the football community for their prayers, concern, and support following the accident.

 

The club added that further information regarding the team's travel arrangements and the status of the President Federation Cup fixture against Nasarawa United will be communicated in due course.
