SWAN appoints Patrick Omorodion to lead three-man Lagos Caretaker Committee
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has constituted a three-man caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of its Lagos State Chapter for an initial period of three months.
The committee, approved by the NEC, will be chaired by experienced sports journalist Patrick Omorodion, with Oni Afolabi serving as Secretary and Anulika Menanya as a member.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by SWAN President, Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The committee is expected to address outstanding administrative issues within the Lagos State Chapter, promote stability and unity among members, and prepare the ground for a smooth transition to an elected executive.
As part of its responsibilities, the committee is mandated to identify and recover properties and official assets belonging to the Lagos State Chapter, document all recovered items, and submit a comprehensive inventory to the National Secretariat.
It is also expected to promote reconciliation among members, rebuild relationships within the chapter, and work closely with the National Secretariat to review and verify the membership register ahead of the forthcoming election.
On the electoral process, the committee will facilitate arrangements for the establishment of the Lagos State SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO), subject to NEC approval and in accordance with the Association’s Statutes and electoral guidelines.
The caretaker committee is further required to maintain regular communication with the National Secretariat, provide updates on its activities, and ensure that administrative records and chapter assets are properly documented for handover to the duly elected leadership.
SWAN’s national leadership considers the stabilisation of the Lagos State Chapter an important step towards strengthening the Association and promoting professional unity among sports journalists.
Benjamin expressed confidence that the committee would discharge its responsibilities with transparency, impartiality and a strong sense of duty, while prioritising the collective interests of members.
The three-month assignment is expected to provide an administrative framework for resolving outstanding issues and advancing preparations for an election that will usher in a substantive executive for the Lagos State Chapter.
