Swimming: Opute misses out on semifinal spots as 2026 Commonwealth Games get underway
Team Nigeria's individual campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow got underway on Friday with Clinton Opute competing in the men's 200m individual medley.
Opute finished sixth in his heat with a time of 2:15.40, a result that was not enough to secure qualification for the next round.
Despite the early setback in the swimming event, Team Nigeria still has a busy schedule ahead, with athletes set to compete in boxing, powerlifting, and basketball later on Friday.
Powerlifting is expected to be one of Nigeria's strongest medal prospects, with the country looking to add to its tally through several title contenders in the discipline.
