2025 Championship: 17 teams battle for promotion in Abia State
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has set the stage for the 2025 NWFL Championship, where 17 clubs will clash in Abia State from September 11 to 21, with four coveted promotion spots to the Premiership up for grabs.
The NWFL Premiership will be split between Umuahia and Abiriba, offering fans a festival of football as teams chase their top-flight dreams. Unlike the 2024 edition, which produced only two promoted sides, this year’s championship doubles the stakes, with four slots available.
To maintain competitive balance, four experienced sides, Royal Queens, Sunshine Queens, Pelican Stars, and Osun Babes, were seeded across the groups.
Group A1 (Umuahia): Royal Queens, Gallant Queens, Castmog Ladies, First Mahi Babes
Group A2 (Umuahia): Sunshine Queens, Fortress Ladies, Unification FC, Kwara Ladies
Group B1 (Abiriba): Pelican Stars, Ahudiyannem Queens, Wazbak International, Chosen Generation Angels
Group B2 (Abiriba): Osun Babes, Ghetto Tigers, Moje Queens, Delta Babes, Imo Striker Queens
Pelican Stars, who hosted last year’s championship but narrowly missed out on promotion, will be gunning for redemption in Group B1. Meanwhile, Osun Babes face a tough road in Group B2, where four determined challengers await.
With promotion, pride, and rivalries on the line, the 2025 NWFL Championship promises high drama and a showcase of the growing strength of Nigerian women’s football.
