Heartland FC, Crown FC set for 2026/27 NNL season opener in Owerri

The city of Owerri is set to come alive on Sunday, November 1, 2026, as the Nigeria National League (NNL) begins its 2026/2027 season with an exciting opening fixture between Heartland FC and Crown FC.

The Conference A clash is scheduled for 4pm at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, with several prominent figures in Nigerian football expected to attend the occasion.

Among the dignitaries expected are Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, and its Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, who have both confirmed their readiness to be present.

The Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, and former NNL Chairman, Chief George Aluo, are also expected to grace the season opener.

The presence of these football administrators highlights the growing attention being given to the country's second-tier league, widely regarded as the Most Important League in Nigeria and an important platform for discovering and developing players for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

For Heartland, the encounter represents more than just the opportunity to begin the campaign with three points. The Naze Millionaires are targeting a return to the NPFL and will be eager to make a strong statement in front of their home supporters.

Head Coach Emmanuel Amuneke has recognised the challenge Crown FC will present but expressed confidence in his team's readiness for the contest. He has also appealed to well-meaning individuals and supporters of the club to rally behind the team as it pursues its promotion ambition.

Crown FC, who are travelling from Ogbomoso for the encounter, will approach the fixture following the recent loss of their team driver. Despite the difficult circumstances, the Ajilete Warriors remain focused on their opening assignment.

Their Head Coach, Fatai Akande, has assured the club's supporters that his players are determined to secure a positive result in Owerri and begin the new season on a strong note.

With two historic clubs seeking a successful start, ambitious coaches leading their respective teams and leading football administrators expected in attendance, the Heartland-Crown FC encounter promises to provide an engaging curtain-raiser to the 2026/2027 NNL season.
