APC officially retains Tinubu, Shettima ticket for 2027 Presidential Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, bringing an end to months of speculation over the composition of the ruling party’s presidential ticket.

The confirmation came on Friday as the APC formally presented the nomination forms of President Tinubu and Shettima ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline for political parties to upload the names of their presidential and National Assembly candidates.

The nomination documents were handed over to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari. The ceremony was attended by members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the leadership of the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council, the APC National Working Committee, state party chairmen and other key stakeholders.

INEC had set 6 p.m. on Saturday as the deadline for political parties to submit the nomination forms of their candidates through its online portal in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

Speaking during the event, APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, described the occasion as the formal presentation of the duly completed nomination forms of the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates. He noted that President Tinubu emerged as the APC’s presidential candidate through the party’s primary election process and urged members to remain united as preparations intensify for the 2027 general election.

Representing the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma reaffirmed the governors’ support for President Tinubu and the APC leadership.

He said the forum remained committed to backing the President and expressed satisfaction with what he described as a transparent and well-supervised primary process.

Uzodimma called on party members across the country to mobilise support for APC candidates at all levels, expressing confidence that the ruling party would secure another electoral victory in 2027.

He cited the administration’s student loan programme, infrastructure projects and agricultural initiatives as key achievements that would strengthen the party’s campaign.

The governor also encouraged healthy competition among APC governors in delivering votes for the President, revealing that one geopolitical zone had already pledged to produce the highest number of votes for Tinubu in the election.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda, also expressed confidence that the party would campaign on the achievements of the Tinubu administration, saying Nigerians would reward the President with a second term.

The strongest affirmation of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket came from APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, who told journalists after the ceremony that the party had officially retained its 2023 presidential pairing.

According to Morka, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the APC’s presidential candidate, while Vice President Kashim Shettima is the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The announcement effectively ends months of political speculation over Shettima’s place on the ruling party’s ticket, following suggestions in some political circles that the APC could alter its presidential pairing ahead of the next general election.

With the submission of the nomination forms and the formal confirmation by the party leadership, the APC has reaffirmed the Tinubu-Shettima partnership that won the 2023 presidential election and will seek a fresh mandate from Nigerians in 2027.
