2027: South-East Will Back Tinubu, Obi Has No Chance – Umahi
Onicha, Ebonyi State – Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win overwhelming support in the South-East during the 2027 presidential election, claiming Labour Party candidate Peter Obi stands no chance in the region.
Umahi made the remarks on Saturday at the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival held in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to the minister, the South-East, particularly Ebonyi, has shifted political allegiance due to what he described as years of marginalisation, adding that the region now feels included under Tinubu's leadership.
“We are not OBIdient people. We have been so marginalised that we are no longer OBIdient,” Umahi said, in reference to the popular movement that backed Peter Obi in the 2023 elections. “It is the man that has given us a sense of belonging — President Bola Tinubu. There is no OBIdient person in Ebonyi.”
He further dismissed the influence of the OBIdient Movement in the region, stating that those promoting it on social media lack a full understanding of political realities in the South-East.
Umahi also praised Tinubu’s administration for what he described as its inclusive policies and development projects in the region, asserting that the President's record would speak for itself in 2027.
“What we have to do is to record the good things that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done for the South-East and Ebonyi State when the time comes. We will not be deceived again — the last election was a mistake, but we have come to be wiser,” he said.
At the time of reporting, Peter Obi had not responded to Umahi’s comments.
