Al Ittihad reward Ashleigh Plumptre with new deal
Nigeria defender Ashleigh Plumptre has committed her future to Saudi Women's Premier League side Al Ittihad after signing a contract extension that will keep her at the club until 2028.
The Saudi outfit announced the new agreement on Thursday via their social media channels, rewarding the Nigeria international for her outstanding performances since joining the club in 2023.
Plumptre arrived at Al Ittihad following her departure from English side Leicester City and has grown into one of the team's most influential players. In 41 appearances across three seasons, the versatile defender has remarkably contributed 15 goals and 19 assists, highlighting her impact at both ends of the pitch.
The 28-year-old has been out of action since February after undergoing surgery on a persistent left foot injury. She has since been completing her rehabilitation programme in the United Kingdom.
Earlier this month, Plumptre shared an encouraging update on her recovery, suggesting she is edging closer to a return and could be available for the start of the 2026/27 Saudi Women's Premier League campaign.
Despite her injury layoff, Al Ittihad have reaffirmed their faith in the Super Falcons star by handing her a long-term extension, a clear indication of the club's confidence in her abilities and importance to their future plans.
The new contract provides another major boost for Plumptre as she continues her recovery, with the defender set to remain a central figure in Al Ittihad's ambitions through to 2028.
