Alex Iwobi equals Mohamed Salah's record as second most-featured African in Premier League

Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi made history on Saturday after featuring for Fulham in their Premier League Matchday Eight encounter against Coventry City, equalling Mohamed Salah’s record of 328 appearances in the competition.

The 30-year-old Super Eagles player now shares second place with the Egyptian forward on the list of African players with the most Premier League appearances, with former Manchester City and Arsenal defender Kolo Touré leading the ranking with 353 outings.

Iwobi featured for 73 minutes in Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Coventry City before making way for Cesar Palacios.

During his time on the pitch, the Nigerian midfielder recorded 60 touches, completed 51 passes at an accuracy rate of 86.3 per cent, created two key passes and delivered three crosses.

Iwobi began his Premier League career at Arsenal, where he made 100 appearances before joining Everton in 2019. He featured 123 times for the Merseyside club before moving to Fulham in 2023, where he has now made 105 appearances.

Beyond matching Salah’s record, Iwobi has also entered the Premier League record books as the fifth player to make at least 100 appearances for three different clubs.

The four players who achieved the feat before him are Gareth Barry, Rory Delap, Gary Speed and James Milner.

Iwobi’s latest milestone further underlines his consistency in England’s top flight, having established himself as a regular performer across three Premier League clubs.
