Chukweze at Milan

Amorim to Assess Chukwueze in Pre-Season Before Deciding AC Milan Future

Nigeria winger Samuel Chukwueze is set for a crucial pre-season at AC Milan, with new manager Ruben Amorim reportedly keen to assess the Nigerian international before making a final decision on his future at the club.

Chukwueze spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Premier League side Fulham, where he showed flashes of the quality that made him one of Europe's most exciting wide players during his time at Villarreal.

The 27-year-old contributed three goals and four assists in 23 league appearances for the Cottagers, delivering several encouraging performances that have reportedly convinced Fulham to consider a permanent move.

However, while the London club are interested in retaining his services, they are understood to be unwilling to activate the €24 million purchase clause included in the loan agreement. Instead, Fulham are expected to open negotiations with AC Milan in an attempt to secure the winger at a reduced fee.

Despite the growing interest from the Premier League club, Chukwueze's future remains unresolved.

According to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, newly appointed Milan boss Ruben Amorim wants to personally evaluate the Nigerian during pre-season before reaching a verdict on whether he will form part of the club's plans for the 2026/27 campaign.

The Portuguese manager is beginning a new era at the San Siro and is reportedly conducting a comprehensive review of the squad, including players returning from loan spells.

Amorim is expected to place particular emphasis on versatility, tactical discipline and adaptability as he seeks to implement his preferred playing style at the seven-time European champions.

With Milan looking to balance their books and avoid excessive spending in the transfer market, the club may be forced to rely more heavily on players already under contract rather than pursuing multiple expensive signings.

That scenario could work in Chukwueze's favour.

The Nigerian winger will be given an opportunity to showcase his qualities during pre-season and demonstrate that he can play a meaningful role in Amorim's project.

After an inconsistent spell since joining Milan from Villarreal, Chukwueze now faces a defining period in his Rossoneri career. A strong pre-season could earn him a fresh start under the new manager, while failure to impress may accelerate negotiations over a permanent departure.

For the Super Eagles star, the coming weeks could determine whether his future lies at the San Siro or back in the Premier League with Fulham.
