Nigeria set for T20 Quadrangular against Ghana, Sierra Leone
Nigeria will host Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria A in a four-team T20 Quadrangular Series from September 21 to 27, 2026, at the iconic TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos.
The Nigeria Cricket Federation announced the tournament on Saturday as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s domestic cricket calendar while providing the national team with valuable preparation ahead of key international assignments.
Nigeria will be represented by two teams, with the Yellow Greens expected to use the competition to fine-tune their squad and assess players ahead of their upcoming engagements.
The national side has been in camp under new high-performance manager Stephen Mangongo, who was appointed in May on a three-year contract with the federation.
The Zimbabwean took over from Kenyan coach Steve Tikolo, who departed earlier this year after more than three years in charge of the Yellow Greens.
The Lagos series will be Mangongo’s second assignment with Nigeria, following the Namibia Tri-Series in June.
More importantly, the tournament will provide the Yellow Greens with a competitive platform to prepare for the 2028 T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifier, which will be held in Abuja from October 18 to 25.
Nigeria will face Gambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Uganda, and Zambia in the qualifier, with the participating nations battling for the top two positions.
The two teams that emerge from the sub-regional competition will progress to next year’s regional final, where qualification places for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 in Australia and New Zealand will be on offer.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2027 will ultimately determine the two African teams that will earn direct tickets to the 2028 global tournament.
