Badagry gears up for West Africa's beach volleyball showpiece
Nigeria is set to welcome some of West Africa's finest beach volleyball talents as the country hosts the 2026 African Nations Cup Beach Volleyball Zone 3 Qualifiers from July 3 to July 7 in the historic coastal town of Badagry, Lagos State.
The championship, sanctioned by the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), will feature both men's and women's competitions and is expected to attract top athletes from across the region in a celebration of sporting excellence, unity, and continental development.
Participating nations expected at the tournament include Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Niger Republic, and Liberia, all battling for qualification opportunities on the African stage.
The hosting rights further reinforce Nigeria's growing reputation as a preferred destination for major volleyball events and underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) to advancing beach volleyball both nationally and across Africa.
Renowned for its scenic coastline and rich cultural heritage, Badagry provides an ideal setting for the championship and is expected to offer athletes, officials, and spectators a memorable sporting and cultural experience.
Beyond the competition, the tournament will serve as a vital platform for talent development, regional collaboration, and increased exposure for beach volleyball within Zone 3. It is also expected to strengthen ties among member nations while promoting the growth of the sport across the sub region.
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation, under the leadership of President Engr. Musa Nimrod, remains focused on creating opportunities for athletes to excel at continental and global levels while consolidating Nigeria's status as one of Africa's leading volleyball nations.
Further information regarding match fixtures, team arrivals, accreditation procedures, and other tournament activities will be announced in due course.
The NVBF has called on volleyball enthusiasts, sports stakeholders, media organisations, corporate partners, and the general public to rally support for what promises to be a landmark championship as Nigeria once again opens its doors to Africa's sporting community.
