7 Days to AACT 2026: Uloma Mbuko Ogbuokiri champions girls in golf legacy

With seven days to the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), Girls in Golf Coordinator Uloma Mbuko Ogbuokiri has highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young girls to discover, learn and excel in golf as Nigeria prepares to host the continental women’s championship.

Through the Girls in Golf Legacy Project, AACT 2026 aims to extend the impact of the tournament beyond the competition course by encouraging greater participation among young girls and nurturing the next generation of female golfers.

The initiative has set a mentoring target of 300 girls, providing an opportunity to introduce more young people to the sport while promoting confidence, discipline, leadership and ambition through golf.

The project reflects a broader commitment to strengthening women’s golf in Nigeria and across Africa by creating pathways for young girls to develop their interest and skills, with the ultimate goal of encouraging more to progress into competitive golf.

As participating countries prepare to converge on Abuja for AACT 2026, the Girls in Golf initiative also underscores the importance of using major sporting events to create lasting opportunities for future generations.

Nigeria will host the All Africa Challenge Trophy for the third time, having previously staged the competition in 1996 at Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos and in 2010 at the IBB International Golf & Country Club in Abuja.

The 2026 edition is scheduled to take place from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja, under the slogan “Uniting Africa through the greens.”

With seven days remaining before the championship begins, attention is focused not only on the golfers competing for continental honours but also on the young girls who could be inspired by the event to embrace the sport and become the champions of tomorrow.
