CAF Champions League: Ayo Abdulrahman urges Rangers to seal qualification against MC Alger
Rangers International have been congratulated on their 2-0 first-leg victory over MC Alger in Abeokuta and urged to complete the job in Friday’s return leg of their CAF Champions League tie.
Dr Ayo Abdulrahman, Chief Operating Officer of EuroMatchNPFL, gave the charge in a message to the Nigerian champions shortly after the encounter, which he attended to show support for the country’s representatives.
Abdulrahman praised the Rangers players for their determination and resilience, particularly after being reduced to 10 men during the match.
“Rangers players showed determination to win even when they were one player down, and winning by two goals was a befitting reward for the hardworking players and managers of the team,” he stated.
Rangers secured a valuable 2-0 advantage in the fiercely contested first leg and will travel to Algeria hoping to protect their lead and secure qualification for the group stage.
The team is scheduled to depart on Tuesday, giving the players time to acclimatise and prepare for the challenging atmosphere expected at the return fixture.
However, Abdulrahman warned the Rangers players to remain mentally strong and focused, stressing that they must be ready to handle the pressure from their opponents and their supporters.
“It's not going to be a tea party, don't expect them to offer you flowers. Stay focused, take the fight to them, and respond to the dictates of the game, especially when you have to defend,” the NPFL chief admonished.
Rangers are seeking a place in the lucrative CAF Champions League group stage, while also aiming to help Nigeria retain its four continental slots.
The decisive second-leg encounter is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday in Algeria, with temperatures forecast to be around 26 degrees Celsius.
