CAF Confederation Cup: El-Kanemi Warriors thrash UDIB to take commanding first leg lead

El-Kanemi Warriors made a strong start to their 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup campaign after defeating Guinea-Bissau side União Desportiva Internacional de Bissau (UDIB) 3-0 in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie in Ikenne on Sunday.

The Nigerian representatives dominated the encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium and will take a commanding advantage into next weekend’s second leg in Guinea-Bissau. The first-leg fixture was scheduled for September 6, with the return leg set for September 13.

After a goalless first half, El-Kanemi broke the deadlock seven minutes after the restart through Nnamdi Mejuobi.

Mejuobi struck again four minutes later, converting from the penalty spot to double the Warriors’ advantage and put the Nigerian side firmly in control.

Dayo Wahab completed the scoring in the 88th minute, giving El-Kanemi a convincing 3-0 victory and a sizeable cushion ahead of the return fixture.

The result represents an ideal start to El-Kanemi Warriors’ continental campaign after the Maiduguri-based club earned their place in the CAF Confederation Cup by winning the 2026 President Federation Cup. They defeated Ikorodu City 1-0 in the final to secure their fourth title in the competition.

With a three-goal advantage in the bag, El-Kanemi Warriors will travel to Guinea-Bissau with confidence as they seek to complete the job and advance to the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The second leg is scheduled for September 13.
