Rivers State recorded one of the biggest victories on Tuesday as action continued in the CNS U-14 Boys and NOWA U-17 Girls competitions in Umuahia, Abia State.

The competitions, which bring together young athletes from across participating states, produced several exciting encounters as teams continued their campaigns in the respective age-grade categories.

The NOWA Cup is the U-17 Girls competition, while the CNS Cup is specifically for U-14 Boys, with both competitions providing a platform for the discovery and development of young sporting talents.

In the NOWA U-17 Girls category, Enugu and Edo played out a 1-1 draw, while Ondo recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Cross River.

The CNS U-14 Boys competition produced a number of high-scoring encounters, with Rivers recording the biggest win of the day after thrashing Kano 4-0.

Edo and Abia battled to a 1-1 draw, while Benue and Plateau also shared the points following a 1-1 stalemate.

Ekiti were in devastating form against Cross River, cruising to a 4-0 victory in another U-14 Boys encounter.

Kaduna and Anambra played out a 1-1 draw, while Akwa Ibom secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Imo.

Enugu also impressed, defeating the FCT 3-0, while Ebonyi and Ondo fought out a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Benue had earlier edged Ekiti 2-1 in another encounter as the competition continued to produce closely fought matches.

Attention now turns to Wednesday, September 9, with both the NOWA U-17 Girls and CNS U-14 Boys competitions scheduled for action at the Government College Field, while additional matches will take place at the Immaculate Conception Field.

At the Government College Field, the NOWA U-17 Girls action begins at 9:30am with hosts Abia taking on Enugu.

Rivers will face Edo at 10:30am, while Cross River will battle the FCT at 11:00am.

The CNS U-14 Boys fixtures then take over from 12:30pm, with NYSA facing Abia.

Rivers will meet Edo at 1:30pm, followed by Cross River against Benue at 2:30pm.

Plateau will take on Ekiti at 3:30pm, before Ondo face Enugu at 4:30pm to complete the Government College Field programme.

At the Immaculate Conception Field, Imo will confront Kaduna at 10:30am, while Anambra take on Akwa Ibom at 11:30am.

The day’s final scheduled encounter at the venue will see Delta face the FCT at 12:30pm.

With the respective competitions entering another crucial phase, teams will be hoping to build on their results and strengthen their positions as the battle for honours intensifies.
