Chiamaka Nnadozie nominated for WSL save of the season

Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has earned a nomination for the Barclays Women’s Super League Save of the Season award following an outstanding debut campaign with Brighton & Hove Albion Women.

The CAF Goalkeeper of the Year was recognised for her breathtaking stop during Brighton’s 1–1 draw against Liverpool Women on Matchday 8 in November, when she produced a sensational fingertip save to push Fuka Nagano’s fierce long-range strike onto the crossbar.

The remarkable moment had already earned Nnadozie the league’s Save of the Month award for November, and it now stands among the best goalkeeping moments of the season.

Since making the move to England, the Nigerian international has quickly established herself as one of the standout goalkeepers in the league.

Nnadozie has kept six clean sheets in the Women’s Super League this season, the second-highest tally in the division, while recording eight shutouts across all competitions. Her consistency between the sticks has been crucial to Brighton’s impressive campaign.

The 24-year-old also leads the league in total saves this season with 62, highlighting both her sharp reflexes and commanding presence in goal.

Her influence has extended beyond the league, as she is yet to concede a goal in the Women’s FA Cup this season, helping Brighton secure a place in the semi-finals where they are set to face Liverpool once again.

Nnadozie is shortlisted alongside several top goalkeepers, including Leicester City’s Janina Leitzig, Arsenal’s Daphne van Domselaar, who has two saves nominated, Anneke Borbe, Manchester City’s Ayaka Yamashita, and London City Lionesses goalkeeper Elene Lete.

Voting for the Barclays Women’s Super League Save of the Season award is currently open on the league’s official website and will close on May 13 at 5pm.
