Emeka Ogbonna urges Super Sand Eagles to beat Ghana, qualify for 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON
Emeka Ogbonna has urged Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles to demonstrate determination, discipline and the Nigerian fighting spirit as they prepare for Sunday’s return-leg encounter against Ghana in the qualifying campaign for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON).
Ogbonna, popularly known as the “Cristiano Ronaldo of Beach Soccer,” congratulated the team’s players, coaches and technical crew for making the trip to Ghana for the crucial qualifying fixture ahead of the continental tournament scheduled to hold in Senegal this November.
In his message to the team, the former player of the team extended his congratulations to head coach Abdullahi Isa, the assistant coaches, including Kadri, popularly known as Kampo, the team secretary, team doctor and other members of the technical crew.
He also commended the goalkeepers and the 10 outfield players who travelled for the qualifying campaign, describing the opportunity to represent Nigeria as both a privilege and a responsibility.
“As we look forward to Sunday's crucial encounter against Ghana, I want to encourage every member of the team to believe in themselves and in the strength of the Nigerian spirit. If we can secure a draw here in Nigeria, we can go to Ghana and secure a victory. With determination, discipline, teamwork, and the right mentality, we can achieve our objective,” Ogbonna said.
He implored the players to give their best, remain united and approach the encounter with confidence, reminding them of the expectations of millions of Nigerians.
“To our goalkeepers and every player, I urge you to give your very best. Remember that you are not representing yourselves and your families alone; you are representing over 250 million Nigerians who are watching, praying, and hoping for your success.
“Play with pride, fight for every ball, support one another, and fly our national flag high,” he added.
Ogbonna further encouraged the Super Sand Eagles to fight for victory and take Nigeria a step closer to securing qualification for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal.
The first leg ended 3-3 in Kaduna with all still to play for in the return leg in Keta on Sunday.
